See, Eat, Do: 5 Things to do in Perth This Week

What’re your plans for the December holidays? I know they’re still a little while away, but I’ve decided to make this my last 5 Things post for the year as things are already starting to get hectic around here. But don’t worry, I’m sharing an extra dose of goodness this week to make up for it, and I’ll be back in early 2018 with more things to see, eat and do in Perth. So here we go – this last one for 2017 is a good one, with the best food and shopping event, salty markets, handmade markets and winery markets, a chance to learn how to make macarons, a classy concert in the city, and a night of big laughs.

Shop the Street
Wednesday 13 December

I had an absolute blast when I did an Eat the Street Walking Tour earlier this year, so I can’t recommend this special event enough. Get your Christmas shopping done in style on this eating and shopping tour of Mt Lawley that will take in six venues. Food and drinks included, as well as special discounts to get all of your gift buying sorted. Get in super quick to grab your $40 ticket.

Macarons Cooking Class
Friday 15 December

Maison Saint Honore makes some of the best macarons around, so they’re the perfect people to teach you how to make them yourself. The class starts at 6.30pm so you can head in after work and enjoy a glass of French sparkling wine and finger food as the chef teaches you how to make these little rounds of deliciousness – of course, you’ll get to take some home with you.

Lotterywest Symphony in the City 2017
Saturday 16 December

Perth’s largest free outdoor classical music concert is back for 2017. It’s an annual event that heralds summer and Christmas, with the orchestra, WASO Chorus and special guest soloists taking to the stage at Langley Park. Enjoy a night of beautiful music under the stars, with a pyrotechnics display to accompany the concluding piece.

Markets in the Valley – Ugly Duckling Wines
Sunday 17 December

If you prefer to browse with a glass of wine in hand, these markets at Ugly Duckling Wines are for you. The boutique vineyard and cellar will turn into a speciality marketplace from 11am until 3pm, showcasing locally made produce, gifts, clothing and accessories, and other handmade gifts and goods. Live music will set the mood, and once you’re done shopping you can stay for a meal matched to your vino of choice. Perfect!

Perth Makers Market
Sunday 17 December

Support local and handmade just in time for Christmas at the Perth Makers Market. The Applecross venue will have more than 180 stalls including food and kids activities, a Christmas craft workshop, henna tattoos and a visit from Santa. This time around there are loads of other cool things happening, including artist open studios, the option to browse the art gallery and museum, and a beginners wheel throwing ceramic workshop. A can’t miss for handcrafted goodness.

Peter Rowsthorn + Friends: Live Laughs Christmas Special
Thursday 21 December – Saturday 23 December

Perth has a fantastic new comedy venue in the heart of the city, and a line up featuring Kath and Kim’s Peter Rowsthorn is just the excuse you need to check it out. Get in a few good belly laughs before the Christmas madness with a mix of professional laugh-makers showcasing the very best of local and visiting comedic talent. Tickets start from $20, get there when doors open at 7:30pm to grab a drink and a burger.

Summer X Salt Markets
Saturday 23 December

If you love nothing more than the feeling of sand under your toes and wind in your hair, this market is where you will find your tribe. Setting up at Clarko Reserve in Trigg, Summer X Salt is a surf, salty-lifestyle and sustainability focused community market with food trucks, live music and the best beachy vibes. There will be stalls from surf and beach lifestyle brands, local artisans and designers, ocean-friendly products and non-profits, single-use plastic free initiatives and family friendly activities
