Are you a Perth local, did you move here with your family, or are you winging it here on your own? I’d love to know more about my readers! I’m a born and bred Perthite, but both of my parents are English and moved here with their families when they were young. I’m so glad they all decided to settle in WA and that I get to call Perth home. There’s so much happening this week with summer cranking and the Christmas holidays on the way that it was hard to limit this to just five things. But here are my favourites – a doggone good time with Perth pugs, an evening enjoying French food in the Swan Valley, the kick off of my favourite open air cinemas, and enough handmade Christmas gift ideas to take care of everyone on your list.
French BBQ Sunset
Friday 1 December
Swan Valley favourite Maison Saint Honore is celebrating its first year with a French BBQ at sunset. Kick back and enjoy the live French music with a glass of French rosé and a set BBQ menu that will be finished off with homemade ice-cream and a macaron, and keep your fingers crossed for the raffle. Bring the family and a picnic blanket, and take it easy for a night. Bookings are recommended.
Friday 1 December until Sunday 3 December
It’s time to shop up a storm at the annual, three day Christmas market extravaganza that is Bazaar. From Friday evening through to Sunday, the Fremantle Arts Centre will host more than 50 WA artisans showcasing everything from jewellery, fashion and ceramics to sculpture, woodwork and textiles. It’s the perfect opportunity to pick up a unique Christmas gift – keep an eye out for Clean Slate Skin Care, Golden Whisk, Wildeflower Luxury Candles, Liz Briggs Designs and Daniel (ink) among the bevvy of talent.
Saturday 2 December
The Rooftop Movies new season launches this Friday and while tickets for opening night have already sold out, you can get along to see Suburbicon on Saturday night, The Only Living Boy in New York on Sunday night, or Juno on Tuesday night. With super chilled vibes, city views and a great selection of drinks and snacks, Rooftop Movies offers an open air cinema experience like no other. The first program of new releases and cult favourites runs until 30 December, with a total of four programs to take you all the way through summer.
Conscious Christmas Collective – A Christmas Market
Saturday 2 December
If you’re looking for Christmas gifts that are meaningful and come from the heart, this unique market has got you sorted. Tonic Yoga in Northbridge are making it easy to give gifts that are green, non-toxic, organic, handmade, support a cause and made with love – they’ve brought together a curated collection of stalls that will feature handmade jewellery, candles, perfumes, home and beauty products, essential oils, yoga and meditation accessories and gift vouchers, clothing, teas and gift boxes, so that you can get your gifting sorted in a peaceful place while creating tonnes of positivity for the community.
Pugs of Perth Book Launch
Sunday 3 December
Bring your best mate along for a playdate and celebrate #puglife with the launch of the Pugs of Perth book. Photographer Sarah Lewis has a knack for capturing beautiful pet images, and she’s put together a collection of more than 60 pugs shot at stunning locations all around the city of Perth. The book launch, at Paul Hasluck Reserve, is the perfect night out for any dog lover. There will be tasty food from The Fire Truck Pizzeria and Delish Ice popsicles (and pupsicles for the doggos!), so bring a picnic blanket and a ball and settle in for a fun evening.
